Telecommunications and Utilities Consulting Expertise

The SV team has industry specific expertise for telecommunications and utilities. See below for a summary of recent telecommunications and utilities consulting engagements:

ERP Selection and Evaluation:

SV worked with a telecom firm to analyze key processes with Business SMEs in preparation for ERP vendor selection. The team defined and documented “As Is” and “To Be” processes for key pre-sales processes through to order and finance functions. SV defined, documented, and prioritized essential business requirements from the “As Is”/“To Be” process. As a result of our efforts, the company:

  • Reduced the number of manual processes and reliance on file-based systems.
  • Increased integration among processes and systems.
  • Improved knowledge of how technology can and should enable business operations.
  • Reduced the risk of selecting incorrect ERP vendor technologies.
  • Support of New Business Launch

A large telecommunications organization turned to the SV team to help them launch a long-distance communications company. On this engagement, SV developed a detailed methodology to define the procedures, representing the interests of the business process owners (i.e., Vice Presidents, Directors and Managers) and ultimately develop an on-line procedure reference tool. This effort concurrently defined the roles and responsibilities of all departments, work groups and position categories within the entire organization. SV managed a team of 20 individuals for this effort.

Process Transformation:

For a large telecommunications company, SV led a project team to transform the processes and organization structure of the billing solutions department. This project resulted in the development and implementation of a vastly improved solution delivery process and methodology using cross-functional teams and improved technology.

Organizational Change Management:

SV assisted development of internally generated customer-driven ideas that result in functional products in the marketplace. This new product development (NPD) process and organization emphasized the use of interdisciplinary teams, high-level and detailed financial and business case analysis, prototype-driven product development, and customer-assisted design, development and product launch.

Detailed Business Plan:

For a telecommunications technology startup, SV redefined the business plan and secured a second round of venture capital. Our team worked with management to clarify the project and translate that into terms of value for potential investors.
